Walk-in reservations are always welcome; however, rentals are first come, first served. We cannot guarantee the availability of bike sizes and/or models as seen on our webpage. The best way to guarantee a reservation is to reserve a bike or equipment rental online in advance.
Are your rental bikes well-maintained and in good working order?
Yes. The backbone of our business is our bike workshop. We use a systematized and trackable maintenance schedule for all of our bikes. Furthermore, our float of rentals is renovated on an annual basis to guarantee the best possible experience for our riders.
Can I have my bike rental delivered to my hotel, lodge or AirBnb?
Yes, we do offer bike delivery or pick-up options in Cusco City and the Sacred Valley. Delivery rates depend on the number of bikes and the delivery location. Please request our delivery rates by call, message or email to our Lamay bike shop staff. All riders will be expected to sign a waiver and leave a security deposit via credit card pre-authorization at the time of delivery.
Do you require a security deposit for bike rental?
Yes, the security deposit amount varies based on the model of bike being rented. Security deposits are processed via credit card pre-authorizations. A pre-authorization is a hold for a specified amount against the card's line of credit. Once a bike has been returned undamaged, the pre-authorization will be canceled and your line of credit should be restored within 24 hours.
I want to ride my rental bike early in the morning. Can I arrange an early pick-up time?
Our shop hours are from 9 AM to 6 PM. For riders who wish to get an early morning start we offer day-ahead pickup between 5 PM and 6 PM for no additional fee. We can arrange special pick-up times as early as 8 AM per request.
Can I book a half-day bike rental or an hourly bike rental?
All bike rentals are considered full-day rentals. After bikes have been rented once during any given day, they are thoroughly reviewed by our service team and are not allowed out for a second rental. This guarantees sufficient time for a proper cleaning and safety check.
Can I pay in cash for my bike or equipment rental at pick-up?
Yes, however, a security deposit credit card pre-authorization will be required. Alternatively, renters are given the option of leaving a cash security deposit at the moment of check-out.
My travel plans have changed. Can I cancel my tour reservation or bike rental?
Please reference our Reservation Policy for information related to cancellations or changes to your reservation. We recommend that travelers consider travel insurance for rental and tour reimbursement in the event of unforeseeable changes to travel plans.
Can I change my reservation in the event of poor weather?
Date changes to bike tours are generally not permitted for weather-related inconveniences; however, we do allow riders to adjust the start time of their ride. For rentals, reservation changes are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
I would like to keep my rental for an additional day. Do I need to contact El Bike Project?
Please alert our staff if you are interested in extending the rental period for a bike. Understand that in some cases a rental extension will not be possible due to existing reservations and limited availability.
Can I leave my luggage or other personal belongings at El Bike Project while I enjoy a guided ride or bike rental?
Yes, we have a small, secure area for clients to store personal items (backpacks and small suitcases). For larger parties, we recommend storing your personal belongings at your hotel or lodge to the extent that you have that option.
Can I rent cycling footwear from El Bike Project?
Yes, we do offer cycling footwear for rent and purchase in both flat and clipless models in Ride Concepts brand shoes. Rental footwear is available in limited quantities and sizes. Please consult with our store staff to guarantee availability for the date of your ride.
What should I do if I am injured, experience altitude sickness or am excessively fatigued while riding.
In the event of an injury, altitude sickness or excessive fatigue, please first attempt to contact El Bike Project for emergency retrieval assistance. If you cannot communicate with our team, consider sending a member of your riding party to seek help – but in no event leave someone who is experiencing a medical emergency alone. In every repair kit you will find our shop contact information.
